Go Your Own Way (Fleetwood Mac)
In my world, this song always existed. Indeed, it was released in 1977, the year I was born. It was covered numerous times, including by NOFX (about two minutes in length, complete with the expected punk-rock irreverence, and with some vocals by Bad Religion's Greg Graffin). It's a good song and robust, having survived several decades. I guess I could say some of the same about myself since we're the same age.
It's one of those songs that builds momentum. It starts fairly quiet and slow but eventually takes off like a jet plane. It has a fairly fast tempo for a classic rock song. The song has so much momentum, it simply fades out at the end, which is the easiest way to end a song like this. The cover art is curious, especially if your eyes are drawn to the dangly bits of the man's outfit. I wonder whose idea that was.
The vocals are perfect. I don't even know how he does some parts. The yelping inflection on "go" and "your" gets me every time. Watch him perform live and you can see him dip his head in preparation and it fairly leaps out of his mouth. Perhaps someone had him by his dangly bits.
The song is about a relationship of unequal intentions. One person wants one thing. The other wants something else. It happens often, and the end result is one has to "go their own way," which renders a painful ending. Relationships work well when there is a common goal, and the commonest goal is to continue the relationship, come hell or high water.
It's impossible to not reflect upon my own relationships, past and present, when listening to a song like this. I can't expound upon what I've written more than I have. I will say this. The girl I love sent me this sweet song last night. I agree with the sentiment of the song. I will let readers draw their own conclusions. I know how much I love her. She's perfect for me, is beautiful inside and out, and makes me happy every time I see her. I look forward to whatever comes next, but I'm also incredibly happy with what we have.

Thanks for taking this trip down musical memory lane with me. I hope everyone's summer is going well. I spend a lot of time working this time of year. I also spend a lot of time on TikTok looking at things like AI-created commercials. There's also AI bits of Ryan Reynolds eating flowers, Kevin Hart eating The Rock, and Joe Biden eating fish. I don't know why, but they crack me up and horrify me at the same time. Like how I feel when I take my shirt off in the mirror. Working on that. Gotta have goals.
Take care, everyone.
