Blue Clear Sky (George Strait)

Blue Clear Sky describes how the girl I adore seemingly came out of nowhere, dropping right into my lap. Does the song describe our relationship? No, there aren't a whole lot of love songs out there. Call me a liar, if you want. What most people think are love songs are actually lost-love songs. But I digress already. This is about the surprise of love finding me after giving up.

Yes, that’s us getting ready for an event. Surely it’s not her favorite photo of us, considering her hair is still wet, but I love looking at her, especially in the mirror. There's something about seeing the one you love in front of you in two ways.

My engagement to the girl I love is recent, and the irony is not lost on me. When the song talks about the "little lie called love," I understand. That's what I thought love was. Then it hit me like a lightning bolt out of the blue, clear sky. She is real. What we feel is real. She feels safe and loved — two things I said she could have with me. She believed me, stayed, and found out, even after she wanted to run. She knew the second time we met it was real, that what I said I was was not a lie. I became the one who made her feel the safest, yet allowed her to stay herself, which was a rare gift for her. One of my favorite photos is below, though none do her justice. I’m sure more will follow. She is the most attractive woman I have ever been with. Especially when she looks up at me with those big, green eyes. And she just lets me love her.

We are planning a summer wedding in her native Georgia. No shotguns involved. Just two people who are ready. No negotiations. No twisting of arms. Just alignment. The biggest realization for me was I was glad I didn’t get what I pined for all those years, as what I have now is much better. It may seem sad to be thankful for rejection, but I am.

It’s like God looked at two of his kids who were  horribly mistreated in love their whole lives and who tried everything they could think of themselves and got them to a place where they both gave up, which allowed Him to put them together. There are bigger reasons, I’m sure, than showing them a relationship can be a blessing rather than a curse. All I know is God is present in our relationship. In fact, He's at the center.

She moved right into my heart, changing my life forever. I keep calling her a game changer. For her, it may have been an even bigger change. I think she is forever changed now, not wanting to go back to a life without me. Honestly. Same goes for me.

Thank you for reading. And God bless.
